Reproductive Organs Out of Control

Yes, because severe cramps on top of the rheum-related pain are exactly what I need right before an exam worth 20% of my final grade.

I ran out of birth control and for some reason my new prescription got backed up in the mail, so I had to skip two days. But I’m back on it and actually thought I was going to get away with it. Nope. Wrong. Foolish.

You have been warned: discussion of pelvic pain and all things related below.

I suppose I don’t talk about pelvic pain here much. By pelvic pain I don’t mean just cramps (when tend to only manifest on my right side), I mean sciatic nerve pain and the immediate expulsion of all intestinal contents (or lackthere of), pain that goes into my legs and keeps me from walking upright, nausea. Ah, but it wouldn’t be complete without the inability to have a BM without sharp rectal pain so severe I bite a towel to keep from alerting my roommates. Nothing quite like it and no one can seem to find the cause (last colonoscopy was clean).

For the most part I have it under control and when it does flare up, I have meds to keep me comfortable. The only time it becomes a big problem is when I am sexually active. Truthfully, I have put off seeing a urogynecologist for over a year now. I know, I know, it’s a stupid decision on my part. But between the other specialists and managing the rheum-related health concerns, the last thing I want is a painful slew of tests near and around my reproductive organs.

No one knows whether or not the culprit is Endometriosis or PCOS. Or both. One doctor says Endo, the other says PCOS. Symptoms of both, but the last laparoscopy was inconclusive. (both agree on Pelvic Floor Dysfunction, but with certain PT exercises that has improved) The medication I’m on helps symptoms of both.

It’s probably definitely time to do a repeat of the colonscopy and have another ultrasound to look for cysts. Time to be more on top of things.

Fingers crossed the pain meds work before I have to leave for this exam. Fingers. Crossed.

How many of you suffer from the same conditions? How are you treating them?
